THE DEAD WALK AMONGST US TODAY

I always heard so much about the day of the dead(Spanish: Dia de Muertos or Dia de los Muertos), but never had the opportunity to celebrate it… except if watching Pixar’s COCO a hundred times and learning all the songs by heart with my twin sister counts. In 2017, that amazing computer-animated fantasy film was produced and it was everything I could hope for. At the time I did not even own a camera but the culture, colors, and costume had me wishing I could jump in the TV and sing along with them. Pixar’s Coco was inspired by this Mexican holiday and so was I, when I heard one of the biggest celebrations was coming to my city on the 29th October 2022.

I could not help but clean my lenses, re-commission my drone out of retirement and hit the bubbly streets for some of the most amazing shots I have ever had the privilege of taking. These photos depict every range of emotion, and deeply rooted family values that this holiday celebrates.

The dead indeed do walk amongst us as we give them the permission to do so.
